HOW TO BECOME A SINGER IN THE ASSUMPTION COLLEGE CHORALE

The Chorale is a performing ensemble in the classic concert choir tradition. Expectations of singers are high with regard to ability and commitment. In addition, singers receive 1 academic credit per semester, up to three semesters. These credits can fulfill the General Education Requirement in Art, Music, and Theater. In addition, singers may continue in Chorale after they have received their three credits.

Admission into Chorale is dependent upon a voice placement audition. This is a hearing to assess vocal range and quality, as well as musical ability. Although previous musical experience is not required, it is helpful. Singers must demonstrate the ability to sing in tune and with good rhythm. Good sight-reading is a plus.

Students who have an outstanding audition will also be eligible to be in VOCE, the Chorale’s mixed A Cappella group.

To register for Chorale, ask your academic advisor to put it on your registration form. The course number is MUS193. You will be contacted about signing up for an audition, which does not take more than 5-10 minutes. Come to the rehearsals during the first week, which are considered open rehearsals for all students.
