THE CHAPEL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE CHABOT MEMORIAL ORGAN

Assumption College’s Chapel of the Holy Spirit was completed in 1968. The architect of this contemporary structure was college alumnus Norman Nault. He was aided by his wife Julie Nault, as interior design consultant. The Chapel can accommodate 400 to 450 people.

The Chapel’s stained glass was designed by Father Donat LaMothe, a.a. in the late 1960’s and realized by Carl Paulson of Upton, Massachusetts.

The organ at Assumption College was installed in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit in 1970, a gift from the family of Fr. Gilbert Chabot, a.a. Over the course of the next 25 years, the instrument was enlarged and revoiced thanks largely to the efforts of Fr. Andre Dargis, a.a., under whose supervision the renovations took place. The most recent and extensive work was undertaken by the firm of Stephen J. Russell & Co. of Cambridgeport, Vermont. It included the addition of 16' pedal towers, a new positive division, and revoicing of much of the existing pipework, bringing the total number of stops to 50. To mark completion of the organ project, Dr. Frank Corbin played the dedicatory recital in November, 1995.
