Faculty
and Staff meet Campaign Participation Challenge
An
incredible 90% of full-time faculty and staff have made gifts
or pledges to The Centennial Campaign. Expectations were exceeded, as
95% of full-time faculty and 100% of emeriti faculty participated.
The
College's employees exceeded a Participation Challenge made by three
anonymous faculty members, who collectively pledged $42,000 in donations
if at least 65 percent of employees donated to the Campaign. Staff commitments
to the Campaign totaled $277,000, of which $121,000 has
been directed to the new Science Center.
Professors Owen Sholes (Biology) and Jeanne McNett (Business Studies)
spearheaded the employee effort, which also exceeded the Science Center
goal of $100,000 identified in the proposal sent to the Kresge Foundation
in February 2001.
"The response of Assumption College employees has been terrific,"
said Prof. Sholes. Prof. McNett added, "This was a very rewarding
experience. Assumption is an outstanding college with a special mission.
It's a pleasure to work here and to be able to give back to the school
in such a significant way."
President Tom Plough is thrilled with the campus response. "I very
much appreciate the dedicated efforts of Owen, Jeanne and their team
of 41 faculty and staff who encouraged their peers to participate in
the Campaign and the Kresge Challenge. They have set a standard for
our other constituencies with their participation and level of support."
