Andrew Laska HA’68, HD’90

Andy was the first recipient of the College’s Honorary Alumnus Award in 1968 for his dedication to Assumption and its athletic program. He was recognized for his work as Assumption’s athletic director (1956-86) and his success as basketball coach (1951-67). He is described as being one of Worcester’s great ambassadors and posted a career coaching record of 226-96 at Assumption. He coached 10 postseason tournament teams and was named New England Coach of the Year in 1957. Andy was inducted to the Assumption Alumni/Athletics Hall of Fame in 1967, and the inaugural classes of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002, Northeast-10 Conference Hall of Fame in 2006, and the Worcester Public High Schools Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. He received an honorary degree from Assumption in 1990 and holds the title athletic director emeritus.
