Brian Kelly ’83

Brian is the head football coach at NCAA Division I University of Cincinnati. He recently agreed to terms on a new five-year contract with UC that will keep Kelly on the sidelines through the 2012 season, pending the approval of the contract by the University Board of Trustees. In his first year at Cincinnati, Kelly earned Big East Conference Coach of the Year accolades, directing Cincinnati to a 9-3 record and a No. 20 ranking in the Associated Press Poll. Cincinnati ended the regular season with nine victories for the fourth time in school history, including three wins over Top 25 teams. UC will face the University of Southern Mississippi at the Papajohns.com Bowl on Dec. 22, 2007. A triumph over the Golden Eagles would complete the second 10-win campaign in school history.

Brian was a two-time all conference linebacker at Assumption, and later served as assistant football coach (four years) and head softball coach (four years) at the College. He led the Grand Valley State University (MI) football team to two national titles in 13 seasons and was named National Coach of the Year in 2002 and '03. Brian served as head coach at Central Michigan University for three years, leading the team to an appearance in the Motor City Bowl, its first bowl game since 1994. He was inducted into the College's Alumni-Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. He and wife Paqui have three children.
