The Sources For the Material Appearing on this Web Page

The Atlantic Cable Web Page-This web site was an excellent source for Atlantic Cable Memorabilia. This site has a varied collection of pictures pertinent to the Atlantic Cable topic.

CW History- This site was a good source both for basic summary information about the laying of the Atlantic Cable as well as pictures that were tied into each summary.

Zianet- This site has information concerning the technical aspects of underwater telegraphy.

Harp Week- Provided an excellent searchable database of Harper's Weekly and is the source of most of the Harper's Weekly pages appearing on this web site.

Harper's Weekly- THE source on primary document news material from the 1850's/60's.

Harper's Monthly- Also a great source for primary document material. Similar to Harper's Weekly only this, as the name would suggest, was issued once a month. Harper's Weekly proved to be a better source due to the frequency of publication over Harper's Monthly.

The Making of America Web Page- A wonderful website that has news magazines, including Harper's Monthly, from the 1850's and beyond indexed and available online.

Copper in Electrical Engineering- Site provides information on William Thomson, one of the leading scientists who worked on perfecting underwater cable technology in 1850's.
