Applying for and receiving financial aid is a process that takes a few months and involves not only the Assumption College Office of Financial Aid but also third-party federal and financial services agencies.
Each Assumption student/family has a personal financial advisor from the financial aid office. These professionals have a comprehensive list of potential resources for you and your family to consider, and they can help you pursue various types of funding and payment options, including a 10-month payment plan.
To apply for financial aid at any college or university, your family must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We strongly encourage everyone to fill out the application—you and your family may be pleasantly surprised by the funding you may receive.
First-year Students
Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is available online at www.fafsa.gov after January 1. This form should be filed before February 15. Assumption's Title IV Code for the FAFSA form is 002118.
Returning and Transfer Students
Submit the FAFSA or the FAFSA renewal each year by March 31. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.gov. Transfer students who already have a FAFSA on file with their current college/university should have their FAFSA information sent to Assumption College.
The FAFSA Process
The government calculates an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) based on your FAFSA information. Factors such as total family income and earnings, assets, number of people in the household, and number attending college at once are among the factors taken into consideration to determine your EFC.
About three weeks after you file the FAFSA, you should receive a 4-page form in the mail called a Student Aid Report. This is the processed information from your FAFSA, and you should review it carefully. If any of the information is incorrect, you should correct it in the space provided and return the form for processing. Please note that the student and parent must sign the Student Aid Report if changes are made to it. If you do not receive a Student Aid Report, you can contact the government processor to check on its status by dialing (800) 433-3243.
The government selects some applicants for a process called verification. If you have been selected, you will need to provide tax information to Assumption. The Assumption Financial Aid Office will notify you if you have been selected.
The Assumption Process
To determine your financial aid need, the Financial Aid staff at Assumption subtracts the EFC from the cost of attendance. The cost of attendance includes tuition and estimated costs of room and board, travel, books, fees, and personal expenses. The financial aid package you qualify for is determined by your need and your academic promise. This “award” may include scholarships, grants, work study, and federal and state loans.
