Students who major or minor in the natural sciences at Assumption gain a basic understanding of classical and contemporary scientific concepts, and the scientific process and its application. Students hone their observation, inquiry, data collection, analysis, written and verbal communication skills, which serve them well in graduate school and/or their careers. The department offers academic programs in four areas:

Assumption also has articulation agreements with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (Worcester and Manchester, NH), the Des Moines Osteopathic School of Medicine, Barry University College of Podiatry and New England College of Optometry. Articulation agreements guarantee that a limited number of qualified Assumption students seats in:

With their strong science background and a broad liberal arts education, Assumption students are well prepared for undergraduate internships, and postgraduate careers in the sciences, other professional opportunities, graduate study and medical school. In addition to the skills and knowledge acquired, ethical issues and moral considerations are explored throughout the natural sciences curriculum.


Assumption College natural sciences graduates have an 85% acceptance rate to medical schools and an 83% acceptance rate to other types of graduate medical programs (dentistry and veterinary schools, etc.).


Summer Research Opportunities


Increasing numbers of Assumption students have been selected to participate in summer research programs at major research institutions around the nation, including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Also, Assumption offers on-campus summer research opportunities to upper-level students who apply to assist Assumption faculty with their research projects. Students selected for summer research positions receive a stipend and housing on campus.
