Program Overview

A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, computer science or actuarial science from Assumption College will provide you with the framework for building a successful career. The analytical skills you will develop will make you an employee sought out by employers. The department offers a range of options to fit many interests. Explore below.

  • Actuarial Science (major): This major is designed to prepare students for the first two Actuarial Exams sponsored by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS).
  • Computer Science (major or minor): Develop your programming skills, knowledge of computer hardware and software and appreciation of the social and ethical implications of technology. Computer science provides a foundation for a variety of professional careers in the computer industry and for graduate study in computer science.
  • Engineering (3 + 2 Dual Bachelors’ Degree): Study engineering at one of the nation’s top schools – University of Notre Dame. Students begin their course of study with a major in chemistry, environmental science, mathematics or computer science at Assumption College. After the first three years at Assumption, students will continue specialized study within the discipline of engineering at the University of Notre Dame.
  • Information Technology (minor): Perfect addition to a major in business, the IT minor allows for specialization within three tracks: Applied Track (for accounting majors), the Online Track (for marketing or organizational communications majors), or the Analytical Track (for management or international business majors).
  • Mathematics (major or minor): Hone your problem-solving skills, reasoning abilities and knowledge of various fields within mathematics. Students interested in teaching mathematics can pursue a double major with education.
