Degree Requirements

Biology majors take 16 courses in math and science, with numerous options for biology students to choose which courses best suit their interests. Students may also receive academic credit for up to two biology internships. Biology minors take 5 biology courses chosen in consultation with a department advisor.


Required courses for major:

  • General Chemistry I and II

  • Organic Chemistry I and II

  • Elementary Functions

  • General Physics I and II

  • Genetics

One of four:

  • Invertebrate Zoology

  • Botany

  • Mammalian Anatomy

  • Microbiology

One of five:

  • Histology

  • Molecular and Cellular Biology

  • General Physiology

  • Introductory Immunology

  • Developmental Biology

One of four:

  • Ecology

  • Organic Evolution

  • Animal Behavior

  • Comparative Physiology

Electives (choose 4, with at least one at the 400 level):

  • Genetics

  • Invertebrate Zoology

  • Botany

  • Mammalian Anatomy

  • Microbiology

  • Animal Behavior

  • Organic Evolution

  • Molecular and Cellular Biology
