On Tuesday, Feb 12, 2013 Korean composer and ethnomusicologist, Ju Yong will present a lecture on Korean music and culture, including the global impact of Korean singer/rapper Psy and the Gangnam dance style. The lecture will be held in Kennedy Memorial Hall, Room 112 and begin at 7:00 pm. It is free and open to the public.
Dr. Ju Yong Ha, has worked in both academia and professional performance venues. He has brought Korean and Asian traditional and contemporary music to the U.S., Europe and South America, and has worked closely with the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) as a cultural attaché to artistic communities abroad. Most recently, he directed a series of performances and lectures in New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles with many of the most prestigious Korean performing artists and ensembles.
Dr. Ha, who received his doctorate in composition and ethnomusicology at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York, is also dedicated to scholarly work in music theory, especially the music of Mozart and R. Strauss, and in ethnomusicology, specializing in Korean music. He is the director of the annual International New York Sanjo Festival and Symposium sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Culture and has taught at City College, Baruch College. He is currently appointed as a visiting professor at the Korean National University of Arts-Conservatory in Seoul, Korea
