On Monday, March 11, Yoram Hazony,
founder of the Shalem Center in Jerusalem, will deliver the annual Rabbi Joseph
Klein Memorial Lecture in Judaic Studies at 4 p.m. Hazony’s lecture will focus
on themes from his most recent book, The Philosophy of Hebrew Scripture.
It will take place in the Salon of La Maison Française, and the public is
welcome.
Hazony is president of the
Institute for Advanced Studies at the Shalem Center and author of two other
books, The Dawn: Political Teachings of the Book of Esther and The
Jewish State: The Struggle for Israel’s Soul. He has contributed articles
to The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The New Republic, Huffington
Post, Commentary, and First Things, among others. He is working on a
new book, titled Newton and Hume: On the Nature of Science, Reality and the
Mind.
The endowed lecture program was
established in 1977 through gifts from friends at Temple Emanuel, and
commemorates Rabbi Klein’s 30 years of service as a spokesman for interfaith
cooperation in Worcester. It brings an outstanding scholar and teacher in the
field of Judaic Studies to address the community on some aspect of historical
Judaism as it relates to the Judeo-Christian tradition, and thus to perpetuate
the dedication to higher learning and interfaith dialogue that characterized
Rabbi Klein’s years of service in Worcester.
This year’s
lecture is being offered under the auspices of The Ecumenical Institute and the
Fortin and Gonthier Foundation of Western Civilization Program at Assumption
College. For more information, contact dhughes@assumption.edu or call
