Help celebrate the inaugural meeting of Toastmaster's Assumption College chapter.

Toastmasters International President John Lau will be the featured guest at the Oct. 31 inaugural meeting of Toastmaster's Assumption College chapter. Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. The meeting starts at noon in the Salon of La Maison Française at Assumption College, 500 Salisbury St.

This will be what Toastmasters calls a "sample meeting," at which veteran members will show new members how a typical Toastmaster's session is conducted. The founding concept behind Toastmaster's was to teach people how to give a toast at a meal. While Lau isn't expected to "give a toast," per say, at the Assumption meeting, he will be on hand to offer insight and advice to meeting attendees. The public is welcome, and food will be served.

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Founded in October 1924, the organization has more than 280,000 members in 13,500 clubs in 116 countries. Each week, Toastmasters helps more than a quarter million people of every ethnicity, education level and profession build their competence in communication so they can gain the confidence to lead others.
