Office
of the President
Dear Friends,
Many institutions of higher education today have lost the true meaning of education, which should not be concerned with training students in a set of skills, but rather with the formation of the whole human person. In so doing, the educational experience becomes truly transformative as the student achieves his or her full human potential. At Assumption College, we have not forgotten this basic aim of education. After completing their studies, whether in our undergraduate, graduate or continuing education programs, our students are not only prepared to pursue the career of their choice, but more importantly they have been formed in a set of values that will compel them to use their knowledge in service to others.
As a liberal arts college with pre-professional programs, our students are exposed to a wide array of disciplines that will expand their mind as they consider new ideas, new ways of looking at the world, and new ways of questioning. Above all, we seek to prepare our students to think through their values and life as the liberal arts focuses on the formation of who we are, who we want to become, and how we live that out on a daily basis. Through the liberal arts our students gain an appreciation of the dignity, beauty, and the sacredness of each individual human person.
As a Catholic institution in the Assumptionist tradition, we take religion and faith seriously as an integral part of the human experience. We explore questions that get to the deepest desires of the human heart and that recognize the role of faith and reason in the search for truth. By highlighting the Catholic intellectual tradition, our students encounter ideas that have contributed to the formation of a Christian outlook on the world that reflects the type of education envisioned by Fr. Emmanuel D’Alzon, the founder of the Assumptionists. Equally important, we seek to foster an ecumenical spirit that will allow our students not only to know, but also to live wisely the truths about God, humanity, and the world.
Our dedicated faculty, who are outstanding teacher-scholars, along with the staff and administration are committed to serving our students and providing them with the best educational experience both inside and outside of the classroom as we seek to live out our motto on daily basis, “until Christ is formed in you.”
It is a privilege to serve as President of this outstanding institution and I invite you to become part of our family whether as a student, parent, alumnus or alumna, friend, or benefactor. Your presence will enrich our community. I invite you not only to explore us through this website, but to visit our beautiful, expansive campus and come to experience Assumption for yourself. I look forward to welcoming you.
God bless,
Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D.
