Venerable Emmanuel d'Alzon, 1810-1880

The Crisis of our Time

reaches back to the last century. The Assumptionists were founded to meet that crisis. Venerable Emmanuel d'Alzon, a man of energy and vision, gathered others to work with him to rescue God's human family wherever it was threatened. Not a man for the quick fix or stop gap measures, his aim was root causes. This remains the spirit of the religious family he established.
His followers are men of contemplative depth, trained insight, competence, initiative and daring. They are to bring the whole, bright wisdom of Christ and His Church into the darkness and danger of a world falling apart.

Drawing on the Rule and on the spirit of Saint Augustine; grounded in prayer, the common life and study; animated by poverty, celibacy and obedience; through teaching, preaching, counseling and consoling; in universities, high schools, parishes, publishing houses, hospitals or on the street, the Assumptionists are to do their part as leaven for the new world that is Peace and God's Kingdom.
